“Turner into a Bearden” were the words chanted as Gracie and Blake left their wedding reception last November.  In case you didn’t get it, her last name “Turner,” sounded remarkably like “Turn Her,” which is exactly what the wedding did – it turned her into a Bearden. I knew immediately that I had the perfect title for their wedding film.

When I first spoke to Gracie about their wedding, she told me that they were going to “Felegant,” a mixture of fun and elegant. This became readily apparent when I learned that they were having their reception at the Dallas Frontiers of Flight Museum. With a father that is a pilot, I love airplanes and jump at any chance I have to film a flight themed wedding. This wedding had more than planes though, and it came with a packed dance floor, goofy groomsmen, and laughing bridesmaids throughout.

I should also mention that I knew over 3/4 of the people at Gracie and Blake’s wedding. These are friends from church, school, and College Station. Most are also incredibly goofy and great in front of the camera.

This was also the first wedding I’ve shot with the Sony FS700. It makes a beautiful picture much like my Sony FS100, but the 700 brings super slow motion video to the table, which really added to the fun of the wedding film.  Special thanks to Taylor Stanley for investing in this camera and shooting with me.

All these factors added up to a fun and elegant wedding, with Gracie and Blake making their vows in front of family and friends and then partying the night away. If you’re having a “felegant” wedding in the future and interested in having me film it, please get in touch!

I’ve been good friends with Ashley and Tyler for several years now. Ashley has helped me film many weddings and is one of the most talented creative people that I know. Two months ago Tyler called me and announced he was ready to propose, and he wanted my help. On June 8, Ashley would be taking photos of her friends Skyler and Brad, all over Dallas. Tyler hijacked their photo-shoot and had them tell Ashley they also wanted photos taken at the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens.

I arrived with Tyler at the gardens at 10am, with the expectation of Ashley arriving anywhere from 11am-1pm. Well, she had a lot of creative inspiration during her photo-shoot and didn’t end up arriving until 1:30. This was actually beneficial because I had a lot of time to interview Tyler about his story leading up to the proposal.
After many secretive phone calls and text messages between Tyler and Brad, Ashley finally arrived at the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens. Brad and Skyler told her how much they wanted to take pictures in one place, and when Ashley walked around the corner, Tyler was there waiting for her. You can see from the film that she was completely taken by surprise. This was easily one of the best proposals I have ever filmed, and I expect to film their wedding in a few months.

Where to begin with Taylor and Andrea?  I’ve known the two of them since way back in 2009 when we first started serving on Impact Retreat’s Executive staff.  Taylor was in charge of publicity, and Andrea administration for Impact Retreat 2010.  Then in 2011, they both went on to be director’s of the retreat.  Throughout all of this, I was involved in Impact in various ways so I had a chance to watch their friendship and connection grow.

The beauty of serving in a volunteer position like at Impact is that you really get to know the hearts of other people in the organization.  There is often a lot of pressure from the need to be incredibly organized, focused, and driven.  The ability to pull it all off comes from God, and I fully believe that only God’s hand makes Impact Retreat happen at all.  With that understanding, it really didn’t come to me as a surprise when Andrea told me that her and Taylor were dating.  They worked so hard as directors and spent so much time together that they were already good friends.  Fast forward a few months and they both knew they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together.

I love filming weddings like this where I know the couple so well, and can anticipate how they will act and what they will say.  I knew their entire story which made it easy to tell it in their wedding film.  I don’t expect every wedding I film to be best friends with the bride and groom, but I do hope to know them well enough to know how they got to where they are, and where they are going.  So, if you hire me to film your wedding, expect to answer a lot of questions and tell me a lot of stories. Because that is how we get to know each other, and how I will tell your story through your wedding film.

Cameron and Megan made filming their wedding almost too easy.  Between Cam’s awesome antics every time the camera was on him, and Megan looking beautiful, this wedding film basically edited itself.  Cameron was my Impact co-chair way back in 2009 when I was just getting my first DSLR.  He possesses the rare talent of being able to make speeches about any topic and make you fired up about it.  I met his wife Megan outside of Sam’s Club one day and felt pretty sure they were a perfect match.  When he proposed, I hoped that he would call me about filming his wedding.  Sure enough, he did, and I’m happy to say that Megan and Cameron are one of the most animated and happy couples I have ever met.  I loved filming this video and showing their happiness; Cameron’s countdown made it really fun too.

Having known Treanne and David for around two years I can say with a great deal of authority that they are one of the quirkiest (yet funny!) couples I have ever met!  Everything about their wedding day was awesomely entertaining, from the jokes and banter between Dave and his dad to Treanne’s bridesmaids and their singing.  This is one of my favorite highlights to ever edit, mainly due in part to the fact that I had the song stuck in my head for months before finding the perfect chance to use it.

Southfork Ranch was the perfect location for a Summer wedding as well.  The trees kept things from getting too hot and the sunset was pure magic.  If you haven’t heard of Southfork Ranch, lookup the TV show Dallas on TNT.  Filming for the entire show took place at Southfork Ranch and the main ranch house had little touches that resembled a stage for a video.

Besides the awesome bride and groom, maybe that is why I enjoyed filming there so much – it was made to be filmed!  The reception took place in one of the large auditoriums at the ranch and it could have held a group twice as large.  I also must say that this was the largest tunnel of sparklers that I have ever seen at a wedding.  They were extra long to make sure they stayed lit.
This was my first wedding using Gorilla Grain film grain scans.
